Cape Cod “For the Birds” Weekends

October 12 - 13, 2007

This October, and again next spring, the Bed and Breakfasts of Historic Cape Cod Bay and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will unite to showcase the spectacular natural environment of Cape Cod to birders of all feathers, novice to expert. Bird watching is a sport you can enjoy almost anywhere; all you need is a good pair of binoculars, some comfortable shoes, and perhaps a birder’s field guide. And one of the best spots to view birds along the Northeastern seaboard is Cape Cod.

During the migration seasons, more than 260 different species of birds may make a stop on Cape Cod to feed on marine worms, insects, crustaceans, and mollusks before continuing their long journey, which may have started in the Arctic Circle and end in South America, 12,000 miles away. Cape Cod lies about half way along this busy flyway.

To introduce birders to the unique habitat of Cape Cod Bay and celebrate the migration season, the 17 Bed and Breakfasts of Historic Cape Cod Bay have designed a two-night “For the Birds” weekend package. The package includes overnight accommodations and breakfast plus:

  • King or Queen Bed made with beautiful linens
  • Tickets to the Natural History Museum, including access to its boardwalks in the pristine marsh lands surrounding the museum.
  • Saturday afternoon guided bird walk and tour of the Natural History Museum
  • Special presentation on the museum’s banding project by a Master Bander
  • Evening cocktail reception/wine tasting hosted by the Natural History Museum
  • Tickets to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • $25 gift certificate for the Natural History Museum’s Gift Shop

Marriage Can Be Murder
Halloween Murder Mystery on Cape Cod

October 26-28, 2007

Fans of CSI (Crime Scene Investigators) and other forensic enthusiasts mark your calendars. The 17 Bed & Breakfasts of Historic Cape Cod Bay are plotting a 3-day murder mystery extravaganza that will take place October 26-28, 2007. Titled “Marriage Can Be Murder” the whodunit revolves around the Halloween wedding festivities of a prominent, though aging, Hollywood actress and a “one-hit wonder” Country and Western singer.

The “wedding reception” will be held Friday night at the Belfry Bistro, an award winning restaurant set inside a renovated church in Sandwich village. Wedding guests are asked to dress appropriately as friends of either the bride or groom, and will be treated to a 3-course gourmet dinner and champagne toast in their honor. Sometime during the evening a murder takes place.

On Saturday, wedding guests are asked to assist local constables in tracking down the murderer by visiting the 17 Bed & Breakfasts of Historic Cape Cod Bay and gathering clues from the innkeepers, who will be in character, to help solve the crime.

On Sunday it's all aboard! Wedding guests will hop on the Cape Cod Railroad for a gourmet brunch and scenic train ride. During the trip, the police arrive to arrest the murderer and reveal the clues that led them to the killer.

The “Marriage Can Be Murder” package includes two nights’ accommodations, 3-course dinner and champagne toast Friday night, breakfast at the inns on Saturday followed by the “murder investigation”, and the scenic rail trip on the Cape Cod Railroad’s Sunday Brunch Train.
